Medium size up to 17cm total length. Costal grooves range from 15-17. Color is generally dark to black with white speckles randomly across the body. The rounded tail may account for more than half the overall length of the species. Ventral is generally whitish, to gray with males having a mental gland on their chin. The head is flat and round at the mouth with bulging eyes on top.
