Hellbender—Cryptonbranchus alleganiensis
Largest salamander in the United States, up to 60cm in total length (3rd largest salamander in the world). Costal grooves are undefined due to extensive wrinkles that make up the skin. Light brown to darker brown in color, with mottled spots randomly over the entire body. The body is compressed and flat for aquatic lifestyle. These salamanders do possess lungs, but never leave the water to breath.
